Cannes: Directors Fortnight Opener 'In the Shadow of Women' Goes to Distrib Film US


Distrib Films US, which specializes in distributing French indie films in the United States, has acquired U.S. rights to Phillipe Garrel’s In the Shadow of Women (L’Ombres des femmes), is scheduled to premiere May 14 as the opening night film at the Director’s Fortnight at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Written by Oscar-winner Jean-Claude Carriere along with Caroline Deruas and Arlette Langmann, the film stars , the films stars Clotilde Courau, Stanislas Merhar and Lena Paugam in the story of of Pierre and Manon, a couple of low-budget documentary makers whose relationship unravels when Pierre starts an affair with his assistant only to discover Manon already has a lover of her own.

The deal was negotiated between François Scippa-Kohn, president of Distrib Films US, and Carole Baraton and Olivier Barbier of Wild Bunch. Distrib Films US released Garrel’s previous film Jealousy last summer.
